"A Guide to the Climate Apocalypse: Our Journey from the Age of Prosperity to the Era of Environmental Grief by Vítězslav Kremlík is the book that some of us don't want but all of us need because it takes an open mind and a welcoming heart to swallow the bitter truths that it presents, backed up with data and case studies."

(from the review by Vincent Dublado)

AUTHOR OF THE BOOK

Vítězslav Kremlík (*1976) comes from the Czech Republic.

During the studies of history at the university he was fascinated by the way how climate change affected human history. It was usually the cold periods that caused the trouble.

As PhD student at Charles University he currently studies sociology of post-normal science, the postmodern mix of science and politics.

Frequent guest of Czech radio and television programmes dealing with climate change.

Lives in Prague, married, father of a daughter.

His favorite book is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

REVIEWS

The author's great advantage is that, as a historian, he can place contemporary phenomena in the context of human history. For non-historians, the delineation of Paleolithic climate change, climate-induced wars in the Bronze Age, the disappearance of the Vikings from Greenland, the fall of the Roman Empire, etc., may be revealing. The history of climate change during the last millennium is a great lesson to all of us, as it is closely tied to what is happening today.

Prof. Ing. Václav Klaus, CSc., an economist, former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, former President of the Czech Republic, author of the book "Blue Planet in Green Chains"

Predicting the fate of a book is always tricky. Visionaries have a difficult work, they get it right only in rare situations. Yet I will dare to play the role of a prophet and literary critic for a while and I will declare with full responsibility that the book Merchants of Fear does have the potential to become a bestseller. Why? Its topic is highly provocative, controversial in our times. It undermines the dogma that is the foundation of contemporary global political and economic development. Vítězslav Kremlík is a historian. And in the spirit of his profession he uncovers, step by step, the  backstage of the war on climate change, and often points to unexpected connections.
